The Warehime Fund For Student Excellence in Business

With the advent of a major gift from alumna Beth Warehime ’13 and her family foundation, the Department of Business Management established the Warehime Fund for Student Excellence in Business to take our student successes to new heights. With the competitive grant funding available via the Warehime Fund, individual and group student participation in practitioner and scholarly activities will be leveraged through dedicated financial support, unlocking a new era in student engagement, innovation, and creativity beyond the classroom.

Types of Projects That Can Be Funded

A wide variety of proposals will be considered. Here are some ideas to get you started. If you have an idea that does not appear below, please contact Dr. Vowels to explore options.

    • Funding of advanced research techniques in Senior Capstone Experiences, such as performing primary research through surveys or interviews, traveling off-campus to learn first-hand about firms being studied or business techniques being recommended, and using analytical tools on research databases.

    • Establishment of Warehime Fellows, students working closely with faculty mentors to produce high-quality academic research, with the aim of submitting their final products for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Applications for this type of funding need to be approved by the faculty mentor that the student plans to work with.

    • Funding of student participation in both academic and practitioner conferences to present their research, network with professionals, and increase their knowledge of the latest in business theory and practice.

    • Funding of student participation in case competitions.

    • Funding of student participation in experiential-learning focused activities, such as Enactus team summits and national competitions.

    • Funding of student pursuit of entrepreneurial projects outside of their Senior Capstone projects.

    Application Deadline

Grant applications for 2020-2021 student initiatives will be accepted through November 30, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.. Business Management majors as well as students pursuing any major who are participating in a Business Management Department-related student organization are eligible to apply. Notifications will be made by December 15th.

To receive funding, applicants are expected to develop thoughtful proposals for consideration by the Faculty Advisory Board. Members of the Board would like to know how your project will contribute to learning about business management, what resources or activities require financial support, and what outcomes will be produced by the funded project.

Grant proposals from individual students will be accepted online at https://washcoll.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eK9EBbsNnWMGOix. Students are encouraged to contact Dr. Susan Vowels, Chair, Department of Business Management (svowels2@washcoll.edu) with any questions.
